Debugging using GDB

As a developer we end up writing code which contains bugs. To find the root cause of the problem we can use novel techniques like printing the variables and adding additional code to analyze the situation. These techniques are often painful and may not help resolve things fast. Moreover, the larger the code, the more difficult it becomes to debug the code.

 

Using debugging tools like GNU Debugger (GDB) we can debug code in an efficient way. GDB can be used to examine how a program is executing. It provides powerful commands to analyze the code and variables. Moreover, it can analyze core dumps and identify code generating common problems like segmentation faults.

 

In this workshop we will walk through how to use GDB to debug C Programs. We will run through example programs using GDB commands and understand how they work and when they can be used. It will also cover programs with segfaults and analysis using GDB.
